Air freight options

An air shipment can involve collection, export handover, airport handling, air carriage, import clearance and final delivery. The agreed quote should say which steps are included and who is responsible for each one.

For suitable cargo, ask about airport to airport transport, pickup and delivery, shipment consolidation, and special size or handling requirements. Acceptance and service scope depend on the cargo, route, carrier rules and local requirements. Regulated or restricted goods must be identified before a booking is considered.

Origin and destination airports

Start with your pickup city in China and the final delivery address. A possible departure airport and arrival airport can then be reviewed along with trucking distance, available flights, customs arrangements and handover times.

Tell us if your supplier has a preferred airport or if the shipment must arrive at a particular destination airport. A proposed routing is confirmed with your actual cargo and requested dates; this page does not list fixed schedules or guaranteed coverage.

What affects an air freight quote?

  • Origin and destination, flight routing, capacity and booking date.
  • Chargeable weight, carton or pallet dimensions and total package count.
  • Cargo category, packing, screening and handling requirements.
  • Collection, customs, airport fees, insurance requests and final delivery scope.
  • Trade terms and responsibility for duties or taxes, if applicable.

Send the same shipment details to compare quotes fairly. Confirm currency, included fees, exclusions and the validity period before making a decision.

How an air shipment is planned

  1. Send the shipment brief: origin, destination, ready date, goods description, package count, gross weight and dimensions.
  2. Review suitability: identify handling restrictions, documentation and the requested pickup or delivery scope.
  3. Confirm the offer: check routing, charges, responsibilities and current availability.
  4. Arrange handover: prepare the cargo and commercial documents after a booking is agreed.
  5. Follow the shipment: agree on milestone updates and delivery handover information.

Actual weight and chargeable weight

Air freight may be priced using the greater of gross weight and a volume based weight. The conversion method depends on the service and carrier. Provide the length, width and height of every package, the unit of measurement and its gross weight so the current calculation can be confirmed in your quote.

When to compare air and ocean freight

Air transport can be relevant when arrival timing or cargo size makes it worth comparing, while ocean transport may be considered for larger or less time sensitive shipments. Compare the full pickup to delivery scope, handling needs and current schedules alongside the freight price.
